Microsoft releases revamped Bing with ChatGPT features baked in

Microsoft just launched an updated version of their popular search engine, Bing with many AI-based functionalities. Microsoft has incorporated the popular AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT with Bing, which is expected to improve the user experience with Bing. Google just announced that it is working with its own AI chatbot named, Bard which will be directly rivaling the market captured by ChatGPT. But now that Microsoft has entered into the picture with the implementation of ChatGPT in Bing, things are about to get interesting for sure. ChatGPT is developed by an AI company named, OpenAI. So, Microsoft has collaborated with OpenAI to increase the functionality of its search engine, Bing. Microsoft has invested billions so far in the company. Seeing the popularity of ChatGPT, the revamped Bing is expected to pose a significant threat to Google’s position as the most used search engine in the world. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, especially said, “the race starts today.”

Google has over 90% market share in the search engine market, which makes it the sole king amongst many search engines such as Bing, Yahoo, and others. One of the main reasons behind Google's dominating position in its Chrome browser and its smartphone operating system, Android. Chrome has many functionalities which have offered the largest share in the browser market. It was once dominated by Microsoft Explorer as it was the default browser in Windows, the most used operating system for PCs. Even though Microsoft still has the largest market share in the PC operating system market, it has significantly lost its share in the browser market.

Microsoft has done many changes to its default browser, Internet Explorer. The company revamped the classic Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge, which is based on popular open-source Chromium. Because of this, Microsoft Edge is just a better browser than Google Chrome, but due to the popularity of Android and Chrome, Microsoft has struggled to recapture the success that it once enjoyed. This also affected the position of Microsoft Bing, which struggled to get the attention of users.

But with ChatGPT, Microsoft has done a massive overhaul with Bing, through which, the company is expecting to challenge Google. ChatGPT uses its AI capabilities to deliver natural responses which normally a human would provide. Because of this, asking something to ChatGPT seems like talking to a wise person who can answer or inform almost anything. Satya Nadella expressed his enthusiasm toward the integration of ChatGPT with Bing and other software from Microsoft. He said that this technology will just change the way we interact with software.

One of the major difficulties which users faced with Bing was in finding the results they desired. Based on user reviews, Bing failed to understand what the user wants when they input any keyword. Google, however, uses the user data it acquires from various Google services such as YouTube, Google Chrome, and other android applications. Because of this, Google almost always delivers the right results. But with ChatGPT, bing will now be able to provide more personalized and natural responses to its user. However, only time will tell how much improvement ChatGPT has brought in Microsoft Bing.
